Is LASIK Safe?

Yes, the risk of serious complications is less than 1%.  The most common complications are temporary and treatable.  Dr. Wasserman will discuss these with you personally at you complimentary Qualifying Appointment.  In general the most common side effect experienced by patients is dryness in the eyes and fluctuating vision during the day.  Generally these subside within the first month.  Most other side effects experienced by LASIK patients are temporary and may include: scratchiness, dryness, glare, light sensitivity, hazy or blurry vision, halos or starbursts around lights.

WHAT IS LASIK, LASER VISION CORRECTION?

LASIK is the most advanced laser vision correction technique available. It is certified and proven to correct low to relatively high amounts of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. A cool beam laser is used to reshape the cornea to achieve your ideal correction. While LASIK may decrease or even eliminate your need for corrective eyewear for distant vision, you may still need reading glasses sometime later in life.

WHAT IS THE SUCCESS RATE OF LASIK?

98% of Dr. Wasserman’s patients see 20/40 after LASIK. Over 96% of them have 20/20 vision or better, and will never need glasses for distance vision again.

DOES LASIK HURT?

No. Anesthetic drops make the procedure virtually painless. After LASIK you will experience little or no post-operative discomfort other than a mild scratchy feeling.

WHY CHOOSE DR. WASSERMAN FOR LASIK?

Dr. Wasserman is an experienced LASIK surgeon who has been performing laser vision correction for many years. He is unique in that he will conduct and review your all-important pre-operative tests and evaluations himself. He programs those calculations into the VISX Star 4 IR laser so you receive your perfect individual treatment. He is never too busy to answer your questions. He will always make sure you are completely comfortable prior to surgery and will only do your LASIK surgery if he truly believes it is right for you!

DOES IT MATTER THAT I HAVE WORN CONTACT LENSES?

Long term wear of contact lenses can alter the shape of your cornea creating inaccurate measurements during the qualifying appointment. Dr. Wasserman requires a minimum of 2 weeks out of your contact lenses before you can safely have the LASIK procedure. If you must wear your contacts to your initial appointment, we can still determine your candidacy, but you will have to remove those contacts for at least 2 weeks prior to surgery and then return to retake some of the tests.
